Superhero Clubhouse is a collective of artists and environmental advocates working at the intersection of science and theater. We make original performances via a collaborative, green and rigorous process. Through the creation of new mythologies reflecting our changing world, we work to ignite environmental conversations among audiences and communities in the pursuit of revolutionary theater and ecological coexistence.

In partnership with The Earth Institute/PositiveFeedback, Superhero Clubhouse will present a double bill November 1-3 for Marfa Dialogues/NY:

 Don’t Be Sad, Flying Ace!

Don’t Be Sad, Flying Ace! is a duet performance exploring how people respond in the face of extreme climatic events. Perched on the roof of his small house, armed only with a typewriter and a rare imagination, a dog attempts to adapt after a hurricane that left him stranded and floating far away from home. Inspired by Charles Shultz’ iconic beagle Snoopy, incorporating leading climate science and featuring live music and unique physicality, Don’t Be Sad, Flying Ace! is a multi-disciplinary tour-de-force arousing hope for a changing world.

Created by eco-theater artist Jeremy Pickard, Azerbaijani-American collaborative theater director Simón Adinia Hanukai and French-American musician and environmental policy expert Jonathan Camuzeaux in collaboration from climate scientists of Columbia University Earth Institute.

Produced by Superhero Clubhouse and The Earth Institute/PositiveFeedback, with support from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Denmark’s Cultural Collaboration Mid and West Jutland, Aarhus2017 and Per Bech Jensen. Don’t Be Sad, Flying Ace! previewed at the Odin Teatret in Denmark and the Human Impacts Institute’s Ten Days of Climate Action Festival. It premieres November 1-3 as part of Marfa Dialogues/NY.

Field Trip: A Climate Cabaret

Field Trip: A Climate Cabaret is a musical adventure celebrating the value of collaboration and revealing science as a creative and intrepid process. Set in a wilderness base camp where seven extraordinary women of climate science have gathered to share ideas, Field Trip features original songs, dance and poetry that together offer a uniquely hopeful view of our changing world.

Inspired by the lives and work of climate scientists Katherine Allen, Nicole Davi, Christine McCarthy, Dorothy Peteet, Cynthia Rosenzweig, Katherine Thompson and Kirsteen Tinto. Conceived and directed by Jeremy Pickard. Lyrics Maggie-Kate Coleman. Music composed and directed by Erato A. Kremmyda. Text by Alice Pencavel.

Field Trip: A Climate Cabaret was originally commissioned by The Earth Institute/PositiveFeedback for the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory’s annual Open House, where it was performed site-specifically in October 2012 to sold-out audiences of families, educators and scientists. It has since been redrafted, and will premiere anew this November as part of Marfa Dialogues/NY.

Tickets may be purchased here.
