PositiveFeedback, an initiative led by The Earth Institute, Columbia University, is the first New York City inter-institutional consortium designed to jump-start and nurture collaboration between artists and scientists focused on climate change.

PositiveFeedback creates new pathways for artists and scientists to work together in long-term, mutually beneficial manner.  In its first few years, PositiveFeedback has curated and produced many successful artist-scientist networking events and engendered trans-disciplinary collaborations around themes related to climate change. Our long-term goal is the creation of a new, robust, visible and accessible arts and science community in the New York City area in the discourse about climate change and its potential impact on our region; and the development of visionary responses that address the complex challenges that our society faces today and in the future.

Project Description

PositiveFeedback will host two events bringing artists and scientists together. The first is a pair of original plays, Don’t be Sad, Flying Ace!, and Field Trip: A Climate Cabaret, performed by ..//superhero-clubhouse/">Superhero Clubhouse, a sustainable collective of artists and advocates working at the intersection of environmentalism and theater. Don’t be Sad is inspired by Charles Shultz’ iconic beagle and features a dog that perches on his doghouse as waters rise around him. It incorporates leading climate science on topics like sea level rise. Field Trip is a musical adventure based on the lives and work of seven extraordinary women of climate science from Columbia University’s Earth Institute.

Our second event will be the latest edition of PositiveFeedback’s ”Art/Science Speed-Dating” – an event designed to bring artists and climate scientists together to determine if there are “sparks” for future interdisciplinary collaboration.
